I sometimes see one of these, a Mk1 Fiesta. Used daily, looks immaculate.
Very much a car from a bygone era with (usually) a 957cc three bearing engine, four speed box, manual everything including the choke and no safety equipment apart from brakes and front seatbelts. Youths today wouldn’t know what to do with it, especially starting from cold.
Note the trapezoidal lights which were quite a thing then (but not in America where they were illegal)

neat. although it was yet another reminder that I’m not a youth.

Sadly, being a youth and knowing what a choke is are usually mutually exclusive.

ever start a lawn mower, weed eater or any small engine, then yes you already know how a manual choke works.

Dangit. I was hoping I was still young. Yeah, as long as it has a turtle and a bunny, I can probably figure it out.

Apparently, I stopped being a youth at about three years old.

Despite being 32 years old and owning two 80s cars and a third typically 80s model (‘91 mk2 Golf), I had never driven a car with a manual choke until a week or two ago. It was a very early Peugeot 205 convertible with the base engine.

My cousin had one of these, it was an ugly brown colour but that thing never died, just changed hands.
